Simulation Game Overview
This exciting and fun team building simulation activity is designed to develop the planning, creativity and teamworking skills of the participants. During this team build activity several teams compete to build a bridge over a chasm and drive a vehicle across it. But, working to tight deadlines, they must also make sure that the bridge is built with strength in mind as it will be tested at the end of the exercise. The activity provides an opportunity for a team to exercise creativity and is an ideal activity to use with new teams and established teams.
Bridge the Gap provides an opportunity for project teams to experience all four stages of team development: forming, storming, norming and performing.

How it works
The objective of this team build simulation is to design and build a model bridge using only the materials supplied. The bridge, which is made primarily of balsa wood, must be designed and built within certain constraints which include pushing a model car from one side to the other. The participants are required to plan, design, construct and test the bridge within a strict timeframe.
Throughout the simulation activity the teams will conduct regular team meetings where they will explore various aspects of teamwork and develop a self coaching style that can be taken back to the workplace. The process checks take approximately 15 minutes and allow participants to privately reflect about what is going well and not so well and put forward recommendations for improvement. They then share this information to evaluate and develop their team performance.
Once the bridge is complete it will be tested according to various criteria including strength. Weights will be added to the bridge until breaking point. Participants are usually surprised to know that their bridges can often carry weights in excess of 20 kg.
Contents
Each unit contains the bolster wood to construct the bridge, and three team packs containing a Stanley knife, measuring tape, string, super glue, sandpaper, rods, pencil and planning paper. Each pack also contains participant guides and a facilitators guide.
