Post Event Learning Consolidation
Training and development is achieving the desired behavioural change in people.
Reality - People rarely change their behaviour unless the perceived benefit of change outweighs the discomfort they will initially experience when applying the new behaviours.
Many initiatives fail to capitalise on the good intentions of their delegates to do things differently on return to work because there is no real immediate pressure / encouragement to follow through. The real pressure for the delegate is to pick up where they left off prior to the intervention and reduce the immediate pressure of accrued work.
We therefore recommend all events have a follow up strategy, either driven by the company usually through line managers debriefing delegates and then supporting / coaching them through the transition period, or the workshop facilitator follows up with suitable coaching interventions or learning consolidation workshop. Both of these approaches are also very effective methods for the evaluation of current development initiatives and the identification of further priority development needs.
